John Suchet gets into “The Spirit of Christmas” at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall

Classic FM presenter John Suchet is a hit with the audience once again as he returns to present the Spirit of Christmas festive shows with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra for a fifth consecutive year.

According to the front of the seasonal programme, the Phil have been “perfecting Christmas for 175 years”.  It’s true. They are the UKs oldest professional symphony orchestra and The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir is nearly as old. Both orchestra and singers play an equal part in these popular annual Spirit of Christmas concerts brilliantly compered by John.

Fabulous 2015 Festive Christmas Programme

Ian Tracey and the Phil team have put together a particularly well-balanced programme of carols, Christmas music and readings for the 2015 season. Many of the pieces have connections with Hope Street via composers and arrangers like Merseyside’s Ian Stephens, a popular Christmas Medley by former RLPO player Edward Peak, and a new carol for the really very good youth choir, Christmas Bells, by principal horn Timothy Jackson that’s full of bell vocal motifs and, of course, plenty of brass backing.

There is also a chance for audience participation with O Little Town of Bethlehem and O Come All Ye Faithful. If this doesn’t get you in the Christmas spirit, nothing will!
